Hi, David Weck here with WeckMethod. I'm with Alexa Glatch, (WTA) pro tennis player, and we're going to be doing what we call a Coiling Core exercise. This is based on the WeckMethod Head Over Foot training method. So, here's what it looks like, and then we're going to work it with Alexa.
I'm here. I'm setup, and it's this very rapid up and down movement using the pulsing power of the RMT Club. Alright so, we're going to set this up with the feet in a 45 degree angle. She's going to bring her foot out a little wider, a little wider right out to my hand, right here. It's almost like she's standing in a box, on the front and back corner of the box [Balance Training]. Notice how she has side bend. Her shoulder is coming down and back. Her hip is coming up and forward so we can coil the trunk. This spot right here on her body does not go backwards. So when she coils, it's this position here. This is up and forward, this is down and back. What she's going to do is maintain that. She's going to come up with the Club, keeping the shoulder down, stopping, and then bringing the shoulder back down. So it's up, she pulls the lat, down, she drives the hip up and forward. Her head is in alignment over her foot, and she's going as fast as she can. She can emphasize the up phase, she can emphasize the down phase, and she can emphasize both phases. Go three, two, and one.
Now, most important thing, we know we did the exercise correctly if Alexa can now come down and feel on that side, she feels more drive. More power. More integration with the rotation and the extension and the flexion [Rotational Movement Training]. This translates to better swinging as you're able to drop in, lift up, and coil to get more power. It's all based on the theory that locomotion is the foundation. Throwing and swinging are intimately related with locomotion. When we enhance locomotion, we enhance throwing and swinging, which is what you guys want.
