In preparation for the disco coming up tomorrow, we thought it would be a fun activity for you to make some disco snacks.

Thursday 16th September – Literacy

How to Make a Decoration

I am learning to write and/or record a procedural text.

I know I can do it when I have created a procedural text.

Watch the video below of a boy making a paper plane.

This video is an example of a procedural text as the boy explains how to make the plane.

Remember that procedural texts are used to explain and teach us how to do something.

The boy in the video needed to write down the steps and words that he needed to say and follow before recording himself and showing others how to make a paper aeroplane.

Independent Task

Yesterday, you made a decoration to make your house disco ready for Friday.

Today, you are going to tell or show another person how to make a decoration.

It can be the one you made yesterday, or it can be something simple like a paper chain or Chinese lantern.

You can write a script and record a video of yourself demonstrating how to make the decoration you choose (Use the boy in the paper plane video as an example).

OR

You can write a procedure that explains each of the steps required to make your disco decoration.

See if anyone in your family can follow your instructions!

Getting Your House Disco-Ready

I am learning to create a decoration to prepare a party space for the disco on Friday.

I know I can do it when I have successfully created a disco decoration.

Have you thought about WHERE you are going to disco on Friday? Have you chosen a space where you can get funky and show off your coolest dance moves in your disco outfit?

You know what this space needs…? DECORATIONS!

Creating a Kitchen Disco Character

I am learning to create my own character.

I know I can do it when I have created a character with character traits and abilities.

This week, we are preparing for the Grade One Disco on Friday.

Watch/Listen to the story below called ‘Kitchen Disco’ by Clare Foges and Al Murphy.

Independent Task

Can you draw or make your own Kitchen Disco character?

Consider other items found in your kitchen for your inspiration such as tongs, pots, fridge, saucepans, and cutlery.

What is your character’s name?

What sort of character are they? Happy? Grumpy? Sleepy?

What is their favorite dance move?

Can you make or cut the character out and bring it to the disco on Friday to dance with?

Design Your Disco Outfit!

I am learning to draw and label images I have created.

I know I can do it when I have designed and labelled my own outfit for the disco on Friday.

It is almost DISCO TIME! On Friday we are going to celebrate the end of term with a Grade One DISCO!

But before we do that, we’ve got some preparation to do!

Independent Task

Today, your task is to design an outfit that you would like to wear for the disco on Friday.

Discos are fun and you can wear any crazy thing you want!

Think about accessories like hats, scarves, feather boas, shoes, glasses, crowns, and jewellery.

Draw your outfit and label the things you have included.

Write a sentence about some of the items you have decided to include in your legendary disco outfit!
