Who Am I?

I am learning to use the facts I have collected about a mini beast to create a ‘Who Am I?’

I know I can do it when I have come up with and recorded ‘Who Am I?’ questions about my mini beast.

Using the facts that you collected yesterday about your chosen mini beast, make your own ‘Who Am I?’ quiz.

Include at least 3-5 clues based around the facts you discovered.

Use the example below to guide you.

You may like to bring your ‘Who Am I?’ questions to school on Thursday to share with your class.

Will we be able to guess the mini beast from your clues?

Writing an Informative Text

I am learning to identify facts about myself .

I know I can do it when I can write sentences containing facts about myself.

You now know so much about Information Texts now and how to tell a fact from an opinion.

A fact is something that is true. For example:  A Dog has a tail.

An opinion is how you feel about something. For example: I love dogs, they are my favourite animal.

Independent Task

Now that you are an expert on facts, today you are going to write some facts about yourself.

Using the example below as a guide, write some facts about yourself. You can do it in full sentences or dot points.

Draw a picture of yourself once you have finished your writing.

Example:

Facts About Me

My name is Michelle. I live in Greensborough. My favourite food is dumplings. I live with my dog Ravioli, and we like to walk together. I come from Tasmania and my best friends name is Jarrah. Spring is my favourite season because I like the sunshine and it is not too hot. My parents are farmers and I have 2 nephews and 3 nieces.

Fact and Opinion

I am learning to identify a fact from and opinion.

I know I can do it when I know the difference between a fact and an opinion.

This week we are beginning to look at informative texts.

Informative texts are pieces of writing, film or speech that only use FACTS to tell their audience about a topic. If we are using FACTS in our writing, we need to know the difference between a FACT and an OPINION.

To learn more about FACTS and OPINIONS watch the video below ↓↓↓

Independent Learning

Today you are learning how to tell a FACT from an OPINION.

Look at the image below.

In your book list the numbers 1-10 and record you whether you think the statement is a F (Fact) or an O (opinion).

For example:

I like spaghetti better than pizza is an OPINION (O)

Cats have 4 legs is a FACT (F)

Writing a Story (Narrative)

I am learning to write a narrative that makes sense.

I know I can do it when I write a narrative that makes sense.

Independent Task

Today we would like you to write a story using the following picture prompt and/or story starter.

I was playing at the park when suddenly…

Continue this story from the sentence starter above.

Think about these things:

  • Do you have a setting?
  • Do you have characters?
  • Is there a problem?
  • How is the problem solved?
  • Do you have full stops and capital letters?
  • Does your writing make sense?

Maybe you can share your story in your class meeting in the morning!

Holiday Recount

I am learning to write a series of sequential events and use consistent capital letters and full stops.

I know I can do it when I can use consistent capital letters and full stops in my recount.

Today is writing time!

Yesterday you listed all of the activities that you completed in the holidays, today you are going to write about them.

Independent Task

You are going to write a recount about what you did during your school holidays.

You can include a few things that you wrote on your list yesterday OR write about one of your favourite things that you did in lots of detail.

Make your writing more colourful by including interesting verbs and adjectives. Such as slide, run, walk, think, watch, walk, make, adventurous, brave, bored, helpful, friendly, large, high etc…

Some helpful words to use when writing your paragraphs:

First, next, then, soon, during, after, later, eventually, and finally.

For example:

During the Spring school holidays I spent the whole time with my family.

First, we went on many long walks. My feet ended up being so sore as we were doing over 10,000 steps per day!

Next, we had a family movie night. We watched Cruella and popped salty popcorn to share. Later, that night we camped in our backyard. It was cold so we made sure we had lots of blankets. I could hear the sirens from the nearby police station.

I enjoyed spending the school holidays with my family. I was happy to have a rest from my computer!

Please note: This task will need to be submitted on or before Thursday 7th October 3:30pm.

Please see the following rubric as a marking guide.
