Using Adjectives

I am learning to use adjectives to describe nouns.

I know I can do it when I can choose interesting adjectives to describe nouns.

Yesterday you chose an item from our house and used some interesting adjectives to describe it.

Independent Task

Today, your task is use the item that you chose yesterday to create an interesting, descriptive paragraph. Your paragraph should use lots of adjectives to describe the item that you chose.

Remember to:

  • Use the adjectives that you thought of yesterday (and even more if you like)
  • Write in FULL sentences with capital letters and full stops.
  • Re-read your work to make sure that it makes sense.
  • Highlight or underline all of the adjectives that you use in your paragraph.

What are adjectives?

Adjectives are words that we use to describe nouns. Some examples include: sweet, soft, scruffy, tiny and huge.

Choose a loved object from your bedroom. In your Journal, draw the object using as much detail as you can. Come up with 6-8 adjectives that describe the object you have chosen. Choose your words carefully.

Thursday 10th June – Literacy

Let’s Make a Pizza!

I am learning to construct a procedural text about a familiar experience.

I know I can do it when I can draw, write and explain the steps I took to complete a task.

Independent Task.

Yesterday you wrote a procedure to explain how to make a home-made pizza.

Today you need to follow your procedure and create your own delicious pizza!

Take some photos or draw some pictures to show the steps that you followed.

Make sure your procedure is ready to share at school on Friday.

Wednesday 9th June – Literacy

Let’s Make a Pizza!

I am learning to construct a procedural text about a familiar experience.

I know I can do it when I can draw, write and explain the steps I took to complete a task.

Over the next 2 days, we are going to make a pizza!

Today you will have a go at writing the procedural text that explains how to make a pizza.

Tomorrow you will follow the text that you have created to make your own pizza!

Independent Task

Your task today is to write a procedural text to explain the steps that you must follow to make a delicious home-made pizza.

Write your procedural text in your Journal Book.

Remember to include:

  • A title (and the date).
  • A goal for your procedure (to make a pizza).
  • A list of ingredients that you will need.
  • A list of steps to follow in order to create your yummy pizza.

Tuesday 8th June – Literacy

Procedural Texts

I am learning to construct a procedural text about a familiar experience.

I know I can do it when I can draw, write and explain the steps I took to complete a task.

How to Make a Delicious Sandwich.

Yesterday your task was to make a sandwich and draw pictures to show each of the steps that you took. Today we are going to extend that task.

Independent Task

Using a phone or iPad, video or record yourself explaining each of the steps that you took to make your yummy sandwich.

For example: I placed two pieces of bread on the plate.

If you would like to, you can email your video to your teacher or send it to a friend or family member so that they can make your tasty sandwich too!

Extension

Don’t forget your Reading Eggs tasks.

Thursday 3rd June – Literacy

Narrative – Comprehension

I am learning to explain my thinking using interesting sentences.

I know I can do it when I have explained why I chose my favourite book using interesting sentences.

This week you have been working with a story that you chose as your favourite book. Use this book to answer some questions in your Journal.

Independent Task

What is the title of your favourite book?

Who is the author of your favourite book?

Who is the illustrator of your favourite book (if it has one)?

Why is this your favourite book? please give at least two detailed reasons.

Extension

Choose your favourite part of the story and draw a detailed picture to show what is happening.

If you like, you could write some sentences to describe what is happening in the picture.

Wednesday 2nd June – Literacy

Narrative – Setting

I am learning to identify the main setting in a story.

I know I can do it when I have developed a detailed picture to show the setting in a story.

Yesterday, we looked at the characters in our favourite books. Today, we are going to think about the setting of the story.

Independent Task

Using the same book that you chose yesterday, create a picture that shows the main setting of the story.

Make sure that your picture is detailed so that it is clear where your story is taking place.

Write some interesting adjectives to describe your setting.

Use some of the adjectives that you chose to create interesting sentences to describe your setting.

Tuesday 1st June – Literacy

Narrative – Thinking About Characters

I am learning to identify and describe characters in a story.

I know I can do it when I have chosen and describe a character from a story.

Choose one of your favourite books from your bookshelf.

Who is the main character?

Independent Task

Draw a picture of your favourite character and label some facts about them. What do they look like? Are they friendly or mean?

Think of some interesting adjectives to describe the character.

Extension

Are there any supporting characters in the story?

Draw and label the supporting characters as well.

Monday 31st May – Literacy

Literacy – Recount

I am learning to write a recount using interesting sentences including capital letters and full stops.

I know I can do it when I have written an interesting recount about my weekend.

What did you do on the weekend?

Write a recount about what you did or about an activity that you did on the weekend. Be sure to read over your work and make sure you included full stops and capital letters.

To make your writing really interesting, think about adding some adjectives to your sentences.
