Thursday 10th June – Maths

Time – Duration of Time

I am learning to match words and pictures to the correct duration of time, including months, weeks, days, hours, minutes, and seconds.

I know I can do it when I can understand that different events take different durations of time.

Today we are focusing on different durations of time including minutes, hours, days, months and years. We will begin to recognise that some things take a short amount of time (like brushing our teeth) while others take longer (like sleeping at night or going on a holiday).

Independent Task

Think of five different tasks that take different amounts of time (durations). Draw a picture of each task.

Next to the pictures, write how long you think each task takes using some of the following words:

  • Seconds
  • Minutes
  • Hours
  • Days
  • Months
  • Years

Extension

If you were not able to use all of the vocabulary words above for one of your examples, think of a task that will be able to use the word that you missed.

If you thought of examples for all of the vocabulary words, think of one more task for each one.

Time – Calendars

I am learning to become familiar with some features of a calendar.

I know I can do it when I begin to become familiar with how many days are in each month.

Today we are going to be looking at calendars. We are going to explore how many days there are in each month.

Watch the video below to learn more. ↓↓↓

Independent Task

Looking at the above image showing a calendar page for the month of June, answer the following questions:

How many days are there in June?

On the 1st of June, what day of the week is it?

What day of the week is it on the last day of June?

How many Thursdays are there in June this year?

Extension

Using your own calendar or the calendar on a phone, computer or iPad, answer the following questions:

Can you find your birthday month on the calendar?

What day of the week is your birthday this year?

How many days are there in your birthday month?

Time – Months of the Year

I am learning to be familiar with the 12 months of the year.

I know I can do it when I name some of the months in chronological order.

Today we are going to focus on the 12 months of the year. We are also going to focus on the months and their links to our seasons in Australia.

Write down some things that you like to do during this time of the year. What sort of clothes do you wear at this time of the year?
