Stretching a sentence

I am learning to add adjectives, nouns, verbs, and adverbs to adapt a simple sentence.

I know I can do it when I can write a detailed sentence using adjectives, nouns, verbs, and adverbs.

Yesterday you had a go at stretching a simple sentence to become a longer, descriptive sentence.

Independent Task

Today you will continue to work on stretching a sentence, this time you will create the simple sentence yourself.

Reflect on something you have done today that can be used as your beginning sentence. For example:

I had breakfast.

I played with my sister.

I watched a movie.

From your simple sentence you will repeat the same process as yesterday.

Writing the sentence, a further 4 times with each sentence containing an extra detail (a noun, a verb, an adjective and an adverb).

Stretching a sentence

I am learning to add adjectives, nouns, verbs, and adverbs to adapt a simple sentence.

I know I can do it when I can write a detailed sentence using adjectives, nouns, verbs, and adverbs.

By adding detail to a sentence, this allows the person reading your sentence to create a mental image in their head.

The more detail there is, the better the image they can create.

Detail can be added with nouns, verbs, adjectives, and adverbs.

By describing who, when, where, what and why the sentence will be become more descriptive.

For example:

I went on a walk.

I went for a nice walk.

I went for a nice walk with my mum.

Yesterday I went for a nice walk with my mum.

Yesterday I went for a nice walk at the park with my mum.

You will have a go at turning a simple sentence into a longer, more descriptive sentence following the same approach as the example above.

Begin by writing the sentence ‘The dog was playing’.

You will then write this sentence another 4 times, each time adding an extra bit of detail.

When you add parts to your sentence, the rest of the sentence needs to stay the same.

You cannot change the meaning of your sentence. By the end, your last sentence should have lots of detail.

Challenge: Underline words and define them as an adjective, noun, verb, or adverb.
